The window display features garments and a film created as part of Threadlines’ Care-full Bodies Care-full futures project.
Inspired by Paisley’s printed textile heritage, Threadlines comprises a series of experimental print-making workshops and public interventions created and facilitated by a group of Glasgow bases visual artists – Rachel Walker, Roos Dijkhuizen, Nadia Rossi and Ruby Pester.
The artists started the project with research at Paisley Museum and Heritage Centre, exploring the history of Paisley’s textile industry. Machinery such as weaving looms was of specific interest, particularly the processes and stages in technological advancement of machinery which eventually led to printed textiles being mass produced in the town.
Over the course of the project the artist group collaborated with eight Paisley-based community groups: Create Paisley; The Disability Resource Centre, Fine Art HNC Students from West College Scotland; RAMH: St Matthews Church Recovery Cafe; Renfrewshire Mental Health Arts Festival and ReMode.
In collaboration with these groups, the artists created a series of temporary artworks and ‘social collections’ which explore, activate and are inspired by Paisley’s printed textile heritage.
Create your own “Buddy Suit” at home.
Threadlines have devised an activity that you can take part in at home. Ideally suited for for 12-18 year olds to complete by themselves, this project would also work really well for younger children with a bit of help from a adult.
The ‘Buddy Suit’ uses old t-shirts and DIY print to create a garment that can be worn by 2 people at a safe distance.
PLEASE NOTE: the garment should only be worn by 2 people who are within the same social bubble adhering to current COVID-19 guidance
The garment can convey messages about the importance of friendship, support, connection and care during these recent times.
Activity packs have been organised for people to take part in this workshop from home, supported by THCARS2 regeneration programme, ReMode Youth and the Threadlines Project.
Each pack contains old t-shirts and scrap fabric, an instruction sheet, letters for creating slogans, cardboard, needles and thread, fabric paint and scissors – absolutely everything you will need to work on your project!
