WORKSHOP: Banner Making Tuesdays @6pm – 8pm, 21st January – 11th March 2025

£0.00

Join us for an 8-week series of banner workshops!
This project will be documented and shared in the next instalment of our zine, CLOUT! #9.

Banners are crafted textile objects that, when produced by hand, require significant thought, care, and patience. During this 8-week series, you will learn various banner-making techniques and engage in conversations about Paisley’s past, as well as the current sustainable, political, and ethical issues we face in 2024 and 2025. You will design and create your own smaller banner, considering the message you wish to convey and what imagery will best represent it. Additionally, you’ll contribute to the creation of a larger community banner.

Description

Paisley has a rich history of protest and unions, and banners have played a major role in this history. Historically, banners have been powerful tools of communication, especially in collective action. From the early days of industrial protests in the 19th century to the civil rights movements of the 20th century, banners have been central in amplifying messages of change. They are not only symbols of resistance but also of resilience and solidarity.
