23/02/2020 10:30 am - 4:00 pm ReMode Paisley, 43b High Street, PA1 2AH

A practical and absorbing day-long introduction to the wonderful world of natural dyes.

Using plant derived dyes woad and madder you’ll be dyeing reclaimed and upcycled fabrics.  Each participant will go home with at least two different items which can be remade into bags, cushions, scarves or integrated into garments.

Woad has been grown in Europe since the stone age and was famously used by the ancient Picts as body paint.  Woad as a dye produces blues ranging in intensity from pale sky blue to a rich cobalt blue.

Madder was cultivated widely in the middle ages for its dye that produces a range of pinks, purples and reds .

Plant based dyes are a more environmentally friendly alternative to the harsh synthetic chemicals that are widely in use today.

The workshop is led by artist and ReMode’s Creative Director Gillian Steel and takes places at our shop and workshop space on Paisley High Street.  All materials, plus tea, coffee and a simple lunch of bread and vegan soup are included in the ticket price.

Please bring a pair of rubber gloves and either an apron or wear old clothes in case of dye spills.
