Dear friends
Firstly, we very much hope this email finds you and your nearest & dearest well and able to weather the impacts of the current crisis. Here at ReMode we’re trying hard to find positive ways of responding to this unprecedented situation. We’re pleased to be able to share news of what we’re up to, and how you can continue to be involved.
Virtual Meddle & Mend.
Free 1 to 1 sewing surgeries. Now is the perfect time to take a look at your wardrobe and see what needs mending or upcycling. A bit stuck or not sure where to start? We’re here to help! Book one of our free Virtual Meddle and Mend sessions brought to you via zoom. Carolyn, Emma or Gillian from the ReMode team will guide you through what needs to be done. It can be the simplest task from sewing on a button or fixing a tear, right up to a full ambitious remodelling of your clothes. To book a Virtual Meddle & Mend sewing surgery email carolyn@remodeyouth.org
Mask Making for key workers.
Along with other makers up and down the country, we are responding to the call out for face masks. Whilst we are acutely aware that what we can make is nowhere near the ideal medical grade required, there are certain sectors such as care homes where masks are in short supply and they are requesting home made alternatives. We’re currently trialling different patterns and fabrics and will share the results on social media. If you would like to help too, we would recommend the Facebook group Mask Makers UK (https://www.facebook.com/groups/maskmakersUK/) This group contains advice on different styles of masks, materials required and also lists requests for support. You could also join our group of existing volunteers who are working on this project. (see below) If you’re based in Renfrewshire and work within the care system or another key worker setting and would like to request masks, please get in touch hello@remodeyouth.org? and we will do what we can to help.
Volunteer group on zoom
We’re delighted that our weekly volunteer group is still going – albeit on a virtual basis. The group meets every Wednesday afternoon via zoom. At the moment we’re looking at mask making, but will be working on other non-Covid 19 related projects too. If you’d like to join us, send an email carolyn@remodeyouth.org or message us via facebook.
Virtual Recycle or Dye
Our weekly classes for young people are continuing as zoom events. If you or a young person you know would like to join these sociable and fun creative activities for 12 – 17 year olds then get in touch carolyn@remodeyouth.org to book a place.
ReMode Resource: Films, Tips and ReMode thinking
Over the coming weeks and months we will be sharing films, ideas for make and mend projects, and regular blogs on our website new youtube channel and existing facebook & Instagram pages. Make sure you follow us to keep in touch! New website blogs this week include:
- Wardrobe Clearout in Lockdown – what to do with unwanted clothes when the charity shops are shut.
- Protection – first in a series of reflections and artist’s responses to the COVID 19 crisis.
MATERIALS
There are lots of projects that you can do with materials you will probably already have at home. However if you find yourself short of materials or equipment and live close by our Lochwinnoch shop, please get in touch and we’ll see if we can help.
Wishing you all well!
