ReMode’s Zine ‘CLOUT9!’ showcases a collection of protest banners created as part of ReMode’s Through the Mill project — a celebration of textile-based activism and its enduring role in movements for justice.
Banners have long served as powerful, creative tools for expressing dissent, demanding change, and catching the voices of communities. From the historic struggles for workers’ rights to today’s global calls for justice — including the ongoing protests for Palestine — these pieces are stitched with urgency, defiance, pride, and solidarity.
The zine also features wider protest traditions, including banners from the Glasgow Women’s Library archive, demonstrations in Peterborough, and Paisley’s own Sma’ Shot Day — an annual celebration of resistance and workers’ heritage.
The works on display are newly created banners made by local participants in ReMode’s banner-making workshops. Drawing on the rich legacy of mill and weaving protests in Paisley, as well as present-day issues close to each maker’s heart, these banners represent a fusion of personal experience and collective memory.
