ReMode Through the Mill Launch

ReMode Youth is excited to announce Through the Mill – Stories of Resilience and Renewal – a programme of textiles heritage events and creative sustainability focussed workshops for 2024-25.

Free workshops for 11 – 25 year olds will present opportunities to learn new skills and experiment with textiles upcycling, mending, sewing, traditional yarn spinning, natural dying, weaving, filmmaking, podcasting and zine making. Heritage talks, open to all, will highlight Paisley’s historic relationship with textile production, and intergenerational connections will be formed through skill sharing and oral archiving activities.

Through the Mill talks and workshops will run from August 2024 onwards, culminating in a celebration showcase event in early summer 2025. Funding has been secured by ReMode from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Young Start and Engage Renfrewshire’s Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund to deliver the programme in conjunction with partners; Paisley People’s Archive, The Paisley Thread Mill Museum and community group Pachedu.

Caroline Clark, The National Lottery Heritage Fund Director for Scotland said:

“Through the Mill cleverly weaves together key principles of our 10 year strategy Heritage: 2033 delivering a project that shares and celebrates a community’s heritage, engages and involves new audiences, and contribute to sustainability by supporting making and mending skills. We welcome the opportunities it will create for young people, and in particular young refugees and asylum seekers with the support of the charity Pachedu.

“We are really looking forward to seeing what the participants discover about the heritage of Paisley’s textile industry, and what they create along the way.”

Young people living in Paisley from 11-25 years old can sign up for blocks of weekly workshops or take part on an ad hoc basis, a great opportunity to learn new skills, explore creative techniques, make connections and be part of the 2025 showcase.

Thanks to National Lottery Players who raise the money that makes Heritage Fund and Community Fund support possible, and Renfrewshire’s Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund, Through the Mill events and workshops will be offered for free and include:
